Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)

The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) oversees the implementation of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and works with the state and territory regulatory authorities to implement and administer the NQF. Early Childhood Services are assessed to be ‘Exceeding’, ‘Meeting’ or ‘Working Towards ‘the standards under the framework through an assessment and rating process.


Family & Community Services

Community Services provides services across three key program areas – prevention and early intervention, child protection and out-of-home care. This department is the regulatory authority for early childhood services. The department licenses, registers or grants approval to operate services for children from birth through to school age.


Department of Human Services

Good for Kids, Good for Life

The Good for Kids, Good for Life program is designed to support Early Childhood Education and Care services and Schools to promote healthy eating and physical activity to the children of our community. The Good for Kids team has worked in the Hunter New England health area since 2005 and are based at the population health unit. Good for Kids supports the NSW Ministry of Health’s Live Life Well @ School and Munch and Move programs.

The child care finder website is Australia’s online child care portal. On this website, you will find information on different types of child care and how to get assistance with the cost of child care. You can also search a database to find child care centers in your local area. In many cases, you will also be able to find the services’ vacancy and fee information. This site also has information and links to other useful websites about children’s health and wellbeing, parenting and family support services.



We provide a wide range of evidence-based safe sleeping resources, information statements and education packages targeting new and expectant mothers, health care professionals and carers. Little Scientists Australia

Little Scientists Australia is a not-for-profit professional development program for early childhood educators and teachers combining inquiry-based learning with age-appropriate STEM exploration (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math’s) Centre’s can become Little Scientist Houses showing they excel in this area. As STEM is important to ensure the competitiveness of Australia’s workforce in the future, educators and children engage in workshops promoting natural curiosity, build confidence and inquiry skills through playful science, technology, engineering and mathematics stations to inspire children’s interest and engagement in this area.
